Golf Channel Amateur Tour - Ottawa, ON

Here is the 2007 schedule for the Golf Channel amateur tour in Ottawa:

The tour provides amateur golfers a professionally organized format in order to compete at the highest possible level. Participants on the tour receive a treatment comparable to what a golfer would get playing on a professional tour. Players are divided amongst six flights based on an initial verifiable handicap Index, and accumulate 'Order of Merit' points based on their finish in each event. These points are used for season-ending prizes as well as a method of qualifying for special events such as the National Championship.

RCGA Introduces Public Player Program

Good news! The new program opens the door for public golfers to participate in provincial and national golf championships because it gives them a recognized handicap and it affiliates them with the RCGA. For $30, public players will have access to these championships without being a member of a private club.

The GTAGA and Toronto Star Amateur

Here's a good read on the GTAGA and the Toronto Star Amateur tournament that it hosts:

Team players... "Ask anyone in golf in Canada who’s responsible for the GTAGA and the highly successful Toronto Star Amateur championships and they’ll say Glenn Goodwin. Ask Glenn Goodwin, the president and founder of the Greater Toronto Area Golf Association and a 32-year employee of the Star, and he’ll tell you it’s the team of men and women at his side"

Ontario Better Ball Qualifying

The Ontario Better Ball Championship qualifying round, set for April 30th, is fast approaching. It looks like par or better should be your target. Last year, 72 was the highest qualifying score at both Hawk Ridge and Bridgewater, while some sites required as low as 68 to get in.
